A sedentary lifestyle accelerates brain aging

Scientists from Boston University have confirmed that a sedentary lifestyle accelerates the aging process of the brain. An experiment was conducted with 1,583 volunteers who did not have any cardiovascular diseases. Their average age was 40 years. The volunteers were tested on a treadmill, and 20 years later the test was repeated with the same participants, who also underwent MRI scans. In the second round, the researchers excluded people who had developed heart disease during the previous 20 years, as well as those who had started taking medication to control blood pressure or other cardiovascular conditions. The scientists found that brain volume had decreased significantly over 20 years in people who had difficulty running on the treadmill. Due to a sedentary lifestyle, the brain aging process in this group had progressed about 2 years faster.
