Red yeast rice powder (Monascus purpurea)

Red yeast rice powder is a natural product produced by fermenting rice with the fungus Monascus purpureus and is notable for its ability to act like a natural statin. Its main component is monacolin K, which has a chemical structure similar to lovastatin and helps inhibit HMG–CoA reductase, an important enzyme in cholesterol synthesis in the liver. As a result, red yeast rice powder helps reduce total cholesterol, LDL (“bad” cholesterol), and triglyceride levels, supporting cardiovascular health and blood circulation. In addition to monacolin K, it also contains beneficial compounds such as isoflavonoids, monounsaturated fats, and sterols, which help enhance its cholesterol-lowering effect.
