Over more than 5000 years of history, ancient Egyptian civilization left behind not only monumental and mysterious architectural works, but also many great inventions that have been passed down to later generations and are still used today.
Join LifeWise in exploring 3 great inventions of the ancient Egyptians that contributed to human civilization:
Written language: Hieroglyphs were the first writing system created by the Egyptians and are still found widely in ancient Egyptian monuments. This writing system uses symbols to represent words, phrases or ideas, so it had certain limitations.

Writing materials: Once written language existed, people began looking for ways to record history, leading to the invention of papyrus and ink . Papyrus was made from the bark of the papyrus plant and was highly durable; ink was made from a mixture of plant gum, soot and beeswax combined with minerals to create color. These types of paper and ink are still used today.

Solar calendar: The ancient Egyptians were masters of astronomy. They developed a complex calendar system based on the flooding cycle of the Nile with high accuracy. The ancient Egyptian calendar had 365 days divided into 12 months, each with 30 days, and the remaining 5 days were placed at the end of the year rather than distributed as 31-day months as in the modern calendar.

These inventions demonstrate the remarkable development and creativity of ancient Egyptian civilization. They teach us lessons about creativity and the application of science and technology to improve life and create values with long-term impact.
