Eric Mussambani from Guinea saw a 50-meter swimming pool for the first time at the 2000 Olympics.
He had to swim one hundred meters against two opponents, but they jumped into the water early and were disqualified. Mussambani was left alone.
He swam terribly slowly, but Erik had not trained with a coach and this was the first time he had seen such a large swimming pool; the entire audience cheered for him. The athlete returned to his homeland and is now the coach of Guinea’s national swimming team.
