Consuming too much sugar, like smoking, affects the cardiovascular system, increases the risk of stroke, and may even contribute to the development of certain types of cancer.
The harm can be noticeably reduced when consuming no more than 6–8 teaspoons of sugar per day, but who sets this limit? For example, you may not add sugar to coffee or tea, yet still consume a large amount of sugar through foods high in sugar in your diet, such as soft drinks, sauces, and sweets.
