The dangers of a physically inactive lifestyle

Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for death worldwide.

Physical activity is generally defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure above resting levels. There are several classifications of physical activity and physical inactivity based on intensity or energy expenditure. Most people can recognize from their own experience that, to achieve the best health benefits while still feeling comfortable, regular moderate-intensity physical activity is advisable. Moderate-intensity physical activity is a series of activities that increase heart rate and make you feel warm and slightly short of breath. Recreational physical activity can come from simple daily activities and habits such as walking, cycling, manual labor, swimming, housework, hiking, gardening, recreational sports and dancing.
