Fact one. In one minute, 50 ml of blood flows through each gram of our brain. Oxygen and glucose are delivered to the brain’s neurons through blood vessels. In one day, 104,400 liters of blood flow through the brain to supply 14 billion neurons with the necessary elements! If the brain is not used to its full capacity, its blood vessels weaken and a person begins to think less effectively.
Fact two. About 70% of the brain is active when you read aloud and solve simple arithmetic problems. This is the easiest way to keep your brain in good working condition! And when we listen to music, the brain is almost inactive except for the temporal lobe, which is responsible for auditory perception.
Fact 3. Our brain is capable of remembering an unlimited amount of information; you only need to learn how to connect scattered memories. It works like this: the brain can remember 5–9 things at a time. But you can remember more if you use a special technique — connect the elements you need to remember with each other. Then, in memory, we will “unpack” them into a single block of information.
Fact 4. During sleep, the brain puts everything in order. Every half hour, there is a transition to a light sleep phase when the brain rests and to a REM sleep phase when the brain is active (except for the prefrontal cortex). During REM sleep, information that entered the brain throughout the day is processed and organized into stored memories. If a person does not sleep for a long time, memory begins to deteriorate, the ability to think and analyze is lost, and consciousness gradually becomes unclear; if a person is completely deprived of sleep, eventually they will go insane. Therefore, it is very important to let the brain rest and sleep at least 7 hours a day!
